Duke of Design
The Wabi Bench
£353
A long, solid-wood bench in the Wabi-Sabi spirit — simple, unadorned, made to last. Available in four lengths, all 40 cm deep and 40 cm high: 40 cm, 80 cm, 120 cm and 160 cm. The wood is left slightly unfinished to show the grain, the edges are softened by hand, and the top is smooth enough to sit on or place a tray. Works as a shoe bench, storage ottoman, or low sofa in the living room, entry, or bedroom.

“We chose this for the honesty of the material — a solid plank that's let to be itself, finished only enough to protect it, and sized to fit real rooms.”
The Duke of Design studio — London
At the foot of a bed for shoes and blankets; in an entry hall as a place to sit and lace up; along a living-room wall as a low console with a tray on top; in a bedroom reading nook as a base for a lamp and a stack of books.
Solid wood, not MDF — dense, stable, ages with a soft patina
Wabi-Sabi finish — lightly textured surface, visible grain, no fake uniformity
Four lengths — 40 cm as a side stool, 80 cm as a shoe bench, 120 cm as a bed-end, 160 cm as a sofa-sized ottoman
Multi-use — seat, shoe storage, low table, display plinth
Made to order — length, wood tone and finish can be tailored
